About Us
Canutillo Middle School (CMS) traces its roots to 1959, when community leaders formally organized the Canutillo Independent School District and broke away from the El Paso County Schools System. For nearly two decades, Canutillo Junior High School shared instructional facilities with students enrolled in elementary- and high-school grades. In 1979, voters approved a bond that allowed for the construction of a stand-alone Canutillo Middle School on Talbot Road, where it existed until 2006.
Canutillo Middle School moved to its current location on Bosque Road during the summer of 2006, opening its doors to students in grades sixth through eighth. In accordance with CISD boundary lines, elementary feeder schools for CMS include: Childress, Garcia, and Damian Elementary School students who live west of Interstate-10.
CMS offers students the opportunity to receive high school credit (credit by exam), and college credit (AP exam) in Spanish by taking an advanced college- level course. The AP courses prepare students to work at a university level by studying literature, conducting research, giving oral presentations, and studying the formal usage of the Spanish Language. CMS is now a center of top academic achievement, with a storied history of success on the athletic prowess.
